What Is The Purpose Of A Working With A Bail Bondsman After Getting Arrested?

Business Blog

When you get arrested and have bail set by a judge, you need to post bail to get out of jail until a trial where you will attempt to prove that you are not guilty. The specific bail amount is determined by several factors. After you know how much you need to pay, you may realize that you do not have that kind of money to spend to get out of jail. However, there is always the option of working with a bail bondsman to get help with posting bail.

How Does a Judge Determine the Exact Bail Amount?

The judge uses a combination of different factors to determine how high to set your bail amount. The following factors are often considered before bail is set for anyone who has been arrested and charged:

  • The type of crime that the individual is accused of committing
  • The individual's criminal record and history with law enforcement
  • The number of crimes committed within the same time frame

If you have a criminal record and the crime you are accused of is quite serious, you can expect to have a higher bail amount set. However, you only need to pay a small percentage of that amount to get out of jail temporarily. If your bail is set at $10,000, you would likely only need to pay around 10 percent of that amount to get out of jail, which is a total of $1000. The bail bondsman would take care of the rest for you.

What Is the Reason to Get a Bail Bondsman Involved?

When you do not have enough money to post bail, you would need to get a bail bondsman involved. Since you would only need to pay a percentage of your bail amount to the bondsman, the process makes it possible for you to get out and meet with your attorney to work on your defense. Without a bail bondsman to help pay the rest of the bail to the court, you would be expected to pay in full to the court on your own, which simply may not be possible for you. When working with a bail bondsman, you must agree to specific terms, which includes agreeing to show up to all your court dates without a problem. If you do not keep up with the agreement, you can have your bail revoked.

If you are arrested and a judge has set bail for you to post to get out of the jail, you might not be able to afford the full bail amount. If not, you can work with a bail bondsman who will only charge you a small percentage of what needs to be posted to get you out.
